New Products: Ammonium Nitrate, Calcium Ammonium Nitrate, and Potassium Salt

Ammonium nitrate, ammonium nitrate fertilizer, and calcium ammonium nitrate are currently among the most sought-after nitrogen products in the MBF Group’s wholesale lineup. Our current product lineup includes Genezis Pétisó CAN 27 Hungarian calcium nitrate and 60% granular potassium salt. It is aimed at farms, producer groups, fertilizer distributors, and wholesale customers in Poland and other European Union countries. We provide sales, documentation, and logistics services, and we calculate the DAP delivery cost after receiving the ZIP code of the unloading location.

In the case of ammonium nitrate, MBF Group S.A. has secured a contractual supply capacity of up to approximately 1,000 metric tons per month; however, the availability of a specific batch, form, and packaging must be confirmed in writing on a case-by-case basis. Deliveries may include prill-type beaded product and coarse granules. At the same time, we are inquiring about the availability of agricultural ammonium nitrate and high-purity technical ammonium nitrate, as these are distinct products with different specifications and regulatory requirements.

Ammonium nitrate and ammonium nitrate—name and chemical formula

Ammonium nitrate is an inorganic chemical compound with the formula NH ₄ NO ₃ and CAS number 6484-52-2. In commercial and agricultural terminology, this product is commonly referred to as ammonium nitrate. It contains nitrogen in two forms: the ammonium ion NH ₄ ⁺ is a source of ammonium nitrogen, while the nitrate ion NO ₃ ⁻ provides nitrate nitrogen.

The terms “ammonium nitrate” and “ammonium nitrate fertilizer” refer to the same chemical compound, but different product grades are available on the market. Agricultural ammonium nitrate is a fertilizer with a specified nitrogen content and may contain processing additives, whereas high-purity technical ammonium nitrate is subject to separate specifications, recipient qualifications, end-use controls, and requirements regarding sale, storage, and transportation.

CAN 27 ammonium nitrate is neither pure ammonium nitrate nor standard AN 34 ammonium nitrate. It is a fertilizer blend of ammonium nitrate and a calcium-based or calcium-magnesium-based material. This distinction is of fundamental importance when making inquiries, comparing prices, and evaluating quality documents, as ammonium nitrate, technical ammonium nitrate, and calcium ammonium nitrate should not be treated as interchangeable products.

Genesis Pétisó – Hungarian CAN 27 nitrate fertilizer

The fertilizer is manufactured by Nitrogénművek Vegyipari Zrt. in Pétfürdő, Hungary, and is sold under the Genezis brand. Pétisó belongs to the CAN group of fertilizers, which stands for calcium ammonium nitrate. It can be applied both before planting and as a top dressing on various soil types and in many crops, taking into account soil test results, plant nutrient requirements, and applicable fertilization restrictions.

According to the manufacturer’s documentation, the chemical composition of Genezis Pétisó CAN 27 calcium ammonium nitrate includes: 75–78% by weight ammonium nitrate NH ₄ NO ₃ and 21–23% by weight dolomite powder, whose main component is dolomite, with the chemical formula CaMg(_CO₃)_₂. The product provides 27% of total nitrogen in the form of nitrate and ammonium, and the dolomite component supplies calcium and magnesium compounds and helps reduce the acidifying effect of fertilization.

Pétisó’s general specifications indicate 27% total nitrogen, approximately 13.6% nitrate nitrogen, 13.4% ammonium nitrogen, 7% CaO, and 5% MgO. The specific proportions and particle size distribution depend on the product form. The manufacturer’s current specification and the quality document for the specific batch remain the authoritative documents for each shipment.

Prices of calcium ammonium nitrate – FCA Hungary

Ammonium nitrate is available in 1,000-kg big bags and 25-kg polyethylene bags. The prices listed below are net prices per metric ton; they do not include VAT or shipping and are quoted on an FCA Hungary basis. The conversions were made using the bid rate of 1 EUR = 4.32 PLN.

Potassium Chloride 60% – FCA Małaszewicze

The second product in MBF Group’s current lineup is 60% potassium salt granules, which is a simple inorganic solid macronutrient fertilizer. The label states 60.0% water-soluble_K2O, which corresponds to 49.8% water-soluble potassium (K). The ingredient is potassium chloride (KCl), CAS 7447-40-7, and at least 70% of the granules fall within the 1–4 mm range. The product has CN code 31042050, is sold in 500-kg big bags, and the country of origin indicated on the label is Russia.

Testing of the sample, conducted by the accredited Fertilizer and Chemical Products Laboratory of the Polish Center for Testing and Certification S.A., showed 61.2% ± 3.7% water-soluble potassium, expressed as_K2O, 99.9% ± 8.0% dry matter, and 92.8% ± 4.6% in the 1–4 mm fraction. The measured levels of cadmium, chromium, nickel, arsenic, copper, zinc, mercury, and hexavalent chromium were below the measurement range limits indicated in the report, while the lead content was 1.25 ± 0.38 mg/kg dry weight. The results apply exclusively to the sample covered by Report No. PL/153/2026/AP; compliance of a specific commercial lot should be confirmed by its quality documentation.

Potassium salt may be used in field crops, vegetable crops, fruit orchards, and on grassland, with the exception of—or with appropriate restrictions on—its use on chloride-sensitive plants, including hops, tobacco, certain vegetables, fruit trees and shrubs, and parts of ornamental plants. The price is 1,573.00 PLN/MT net, or 364.12 EUR/MT net at an exchange rate of 1 EUR = 4.32 PLN, on an FCA Małaszewicze basis. The safety data sheet classifies the product as not subject to regulations governing the transport of hazardous materials; prior to sale, MBF Group verifies the product’s availability, documentation of origin, customs status, and market authorization for the batch being offered.

Ammonium nitrate, ammonium nitrate fertilizer, and calcium ammonium nitrate – the situation on the EU market

The European fertilizer market remains vulnerable to natural gas prices, energy costs, shifts in import patterns, customs policies, and seasonal order backlogs. The European Commission notes that natural gas accounts for about 70% of the production costs of nitrogen fertilizers, and in April 2026, their prices were 71% higher than the average in 2024. The European Commission provides more information in a report on the availability and affordability of fertilizers.

Starting July 1, 2025, the European Union will gradually increase customs duties on select nitrogen fertilizers from Russia and Belarus in an effort to diversify its supply sources. These regulations apply to specific product groups and tariff codes; therefore, their effects should not be automatically extended to all potassium salts. The origin, CN code, customs status, and costs associated with placing each consignment on the market must be assessed separately. A large number of inquiries currently directed to MBF Group concern both calcium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, and high-purity technical ammonium nitrate. Demand comes from the Polish market and other European Union countries, and customers are primarily looking for reliable sourcing, consistent quality, COA and SDS documents, and the ability to arrange regular deliveries. Genezis Pétisó is a CAN 27 fertilizer with dolomite added; typical ammonium nitrate has a higher nitrogen content, while technical-grade ammonium nitrate is subject to separate quality, legal, transportation, and end-use requirements.

Current demand does not indicate a sustained shortage of fertilizers across the entire market, but the availability of a specific product, package size, and quantity may change rapidly. This applies in particular to the periods preceding intensive fertilization and to batches intended for rapid distribution. For this reason, we recommend that wholesale customers agree on the contract, documentation, and delivery schedule in advance.
